Why don't I use meal plans?

My experience over the years shows me that meal plans are not sustainable for most people.  They haven't worked for me for long term success.  The 'black and white' nature of a meal plan suggests to people that they need to eat exactly what's on the plan at every meal...or they've failed.  And sometimes when we believe we have failed, we risk the thought of "oh well I've stuffed it up now, I might as well just carry on eating that *insert your binge food* ",  and it can be hard to get back on track again

Most meal plans are inflexible as they don't allow for events such as meals out, sick family members, travel, etc.  Most people go back to their old eating ways when the meal plan 'ends' as they find they haven't been able to transition back to their 'regular eating'. 
Meal plans don't help people who don't have the skills to follow them; skills such as:
  • planning meals and grocery shopping
  • reading food labels
  • preparing and storing food 
  • eating slowly and with awareness
  • learning about their hunger and fullness cues
  • avoiding 'danger' foods
  • choosing better options when eating out

So instead of meal plans, I offer habit-based coaching.

​Habit based coaching is in the best practice of change psychology.  It's built on the science of what actually helps people develop new skills and make change in their lives.  It's like learning to play the piano - most people can't just sit down and play a symphony - it takes practice, and practice, and more practice to develop skills to play well.


So instead of telling you what to eat, and when to eat it, I help build your skills (using daily habit practices) to eat well, every day, wherever you are, and no matter what life decides to throw at you!

And of course it's sustainable...for life
